The Art of Slowing Down

It’s important to allow yourself to go slow now and again.

With all our focus going to productivity and achievement, we can easily get caught up in worry, anxiety & stress.

We start to focus so far in the future or remain caught up in the mistakes of the past.

We try to get to work as quickly as possible, get as much done as we can, meet that deadline in record time.

We rush home, quickly make dinner, eat without thought.

We spend so much time racing everywhere that we sometimes forget to allow ourselves to slow down. We forget the importance of allowing ourselves to take it slow.

Being productive and pursuing our goals is incredibly important, however having balance is key & we also need moments of peace and calm throughout our day,/week.

Constantly focusing on doing/creating, affects our mental health. Constant expectation & pressure is exhausting.

Here are some easy practices I personally use to help me find balance & slow down a little:

  • 𝑾𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒖𝒑 𝒔𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒍𝒚 – give yourself an extra 10 mins, set that alarm early so you have time to enjoy a simple stretch. Have a morning routine you follow, ritual is therapeutic.
  • 𝑰𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒚 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕 – take time to write a small list for the important things to focus on for the day.
  • 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆 5 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝑬𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒓 – avoid the stress of running late.
  • 𝑻𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒂 𝑴𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝑨𝒑𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑫𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒌 – by eating mindfully … aka avoid eating in the car or whilst in a rush.
  • 𝑨𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑷𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒔 & 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏… in the pauses you hear so much.

Slowing down allows us to enjoy the process more.

When we allow ourselves to move slowly through certain parts of our day, we face our daily challenges feeling more calm & composed.
